This section of the site isn’t so much about the Long Trail as it is about my Long Trail. If you want information about the trail, its great history and the people behind it the best place to look is the Green Mountain Club. While they have literally written the book on the subject (GMC Long Trail Guide) they are also responsible for building, rebuilding and planning for the future of this historic trail. They are definitely the folks to talk to if you want information about the trail and life on it.
No, this is about my personal Long Trail. For now it will be about plans and preparations. Later this page will change from pre trip landing page to post trip report. Then hopefully in a few years I can add another trip report after doing the trail again with my wife. For now though it is all about the future, about the potential of a beckoning trail.
Update: The plan has changed from what I’d been thinking of doing, but things are still looking good for this Fall. Testing nixed the unsupported effort as I’m just too slow with that heavy of a pack to cover the necessary miles. Since I’m freed from that constraint I’ve opted to go SOBO to avoid the AT crowds early on and have planned four resupply points to keep the pack light by my standards. I also had the freedom to add an extra week so I can take my time and enjoy the trip rather than making it a race. Starting the second week of September I’m hoping to follow autumn as it works its way to the south.
